Natasha’s management journey with West House

Natasha joined West House in March 2022. Growing up she always wanted to be a midwife and studied health and social care at college when she was 16 and this changed her perspective. From then on she knew she wanted to work in adult social care, her reason for the change was that she recognised how much of a difference she could make in people’s lives.

In her manager role at West House, Natasha is fully involved with the people she supports. Natasha is responsible for rota planning, finances, care plans, risk assessments, team supervision, liaising with GPs and health care professionals as well as being on the floor and supporting. Natasha is fully immersed in the team and the role is very hands-on.

Prior to working at West House, Natasha had 8 years of experience in a supervisor/senior capacity in the care sector working with adults. Natasha is currently working on her degree through the Open University in social sciences and she is due to complete the course in the next few months. Natasha was doing this course before she came to West House. In time, Natasha will be enrolled on her Level 5 Diploma as part of her management role at West House. Natasha originally applied for a Support Worker role, but she was contacted by Amy in our HR team and was encouraged to apply for the manager position as her CV demonstrated a wealth of experience in adult social care. Natasha was successful in her appointment as Manager for the Carlisle service.

Natasha says she really enjoys the close contact she has with the people her staff team support, for example, recently she has helped organise a visit to a family wedding in Blackpool for one person. Another has just been supported to go to the theatre in Newcastle to watch Joseph and the Technicolour dream coat. They both had a great time and when they returned, they were super excited to tell Natasha all about it. One person we support came back from the trip with a CD and a t-shirt and shared all the clips with Natasha on his iPad. “This is what I love about the role, it’s so rewarding, the level of engagement you have with the people we support is important to me as a manager of the service.

Since joining West House in March 2022 I have completed a lot of training, I am now a trained facilitator for Moving and Handling. I have attended Team Teach, Medication Competency, Fire Warden, First Aid, Manager Induction Standards training and lots of online training and I’ve only been here four months. I can’t believe how much support and training I have had,” says Natasha.

Natasha is a full-time manager at Carlisle and generally works days. She sometimes covers shifts but it depends on what is going on in service, there is some weekend work too but this does not impact her work-life balance. Natasha says she can switch off from work out of hours and the team can use on-call for support.

Natasha says she does not drive but that does not hold her back. She manages to get to all the training venues, uses public transport and gets lifts from staff.

Natasha is a great asset to our management team at West House, her values are aligned with ours of being Person Centred, Inclusive and Positive and she is certainly making a difference to the lives of the people we support.
